Spanked Over The Pool Table

I suppose pool (or billiards) in mixed company would be a lot more fun if there were suitable “forfeits”, eh?

spanked over the pool table while her friends all watch and laugh

Art is by Léo Fontan (aka “Fontana”) and I found this image at Hermione’s Heart.

    Perhaps a billiard table?

Major, the linguistic distinctions between billards and other cue sports (including pool) and the equipment designations for them very widely by country and geography and (I suspect) have evolved in the near-century since that artwork was created by an (I believe) French artist. I chose “pool table” for my post headline since in my part of the USA the word “billiard” or “billiards” is little known and barely used, and no one says “billiard table” or “billiards table”; the only cue sports played here are variants of pool and the table used is always called a pool table. The Wikipedia article which I think lacks much of the real-world nuance nonetheless matches this reality by saying that “a billiard table or billiards table is a bounded table on which cue sports are played [and] more specific terms are used for specific sports, such as snooker table and pool table.”

Nonetheless I adverted to the nuance of it all by including a reference to billiards in the body of the post, since probably nothing like modern pool games was being played on that table in the artist’s imagination. Not sure what more you could have wanted in a post that’s not actually about cue sports?
