Nun Spanking Girls, Oil On Copper
In a comment, Arkady linked to the following oil painting from a French-language auction catalog. Since it wasn’t on topic for the comment, but it is a most excellent bit of nun spanking art, I decided to pull it up into a post of its own.
Here’s the art in frame:
And here’s a crop of the good part:
You can find it here. The catalog description reads:
Adam Johan Braun (1748-1827), Le doux châtiment
Huile sur cuivre signée, 41×54 cm
Google Translate renders that as:
Johan Adam Braun (1748-1827), the mild punishment
Oil on copper signed 41×54 cm
Hey, it’s proof at least that the meme of the vicious nun “mildly” thrashing the hell out of cute female bottoms is not a modern invention!
Thanks ever so much to Arkady for sharing this.

Also translates as “The sweet punishment”. (for example, vin doux is sweet wine)
I’m really, really taken with this. Must be the authentic dress detail, & the girls crying in the background. Thanks for posting it!
I always wonder about the rest of the story- why she is in trouble, are the other girls who are watching the next in line or is this being done in front of them as a cautionary episode? I did notice the letters on the floor near the chastised girl- perhaps a secret love affair was discovered? Ah, the pains of romance…
Adele, I’m pretty taken with it too. I’d love to have it on my wall. But with an auction estimate of three to five thousand Swiss francs, that won’t be happening. Not unless Swiss francs are worth less than old Mexican pesos, which somehow, I doubt without having gone and checked.
Looks like the direct link that was working last night, no longer does. But folks can navigate to the item by going here:
http://www.hdvge.auction.fr/cp/hdvge/
Then selecting the fifth item down, which is entitled “Tableaux, Dessins, Ecole suisse et genevoise des XVIIIe et XIXe s”.
Then scrolling down to Lot #1257.
Here is a direct link to the image:

Currently, a Swiss Franc prett much equals a US Dollar (~0.97, to be more precise.)
i would also translate that as “the sweet punishment”
hello, sorry for my poor english, but the translation is a bit wrong, “doux” is more sweet than mild, an ironic tenderness!
great job,
regards.
Did
It was sold for 5 468 swiss francs, that’s 3500 euros.
