Spanking Blog: Adult Erotic Spanking At Its Best

Longtime readers of this blog will probably have fond memories for the Spanking Epics movies that were produced (so far as the internet public was aware) by Bethany, who was spanko-internet-famous for her very early spanking stories site Bethany’s Woodshed and who now publishes a fine assortment of spanking and erotic romance ebooks at Blushing Books. (Full disclosure: Bethany was an early supporter and sponsor of Spanking Blog, and maintained an sporadic advertising presence here in the first years of our publication.)

Spanking Blog published reviews of several Spanking Epics titles, and like many others in the spanking community, my Bethie and I were generally quite impressed with their movies, which had better acting than most, great costumes, and a wider variety of sets and scenes than was typical. But sadly, after a few years they stopped releasing new titles. At some point — when I stumbled over some Spanking Epics clips at the famous Wasteland BDSM site — I became aware that Colin and Angie Rowntree’s Phoenix Group, which produces Wasteland, had all along been a quiet partner in the Spanking Epics movie venture.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, when I was playing around with some test spanking queries on Colin’s new porn search engine Boodigo. When the Spanking Epics link popped up prominently on Boodigo, I clicked through to find a “coming soon” announcement page with a relaunch countdown timer. It was short on details, so I just made an interested mental note and moved on.

And then this morning, I learned via twitter of this post by Joe at The Spanking Resource:

I’m now part of the team running Spankingepics.com — some of the (in my opinion) best damn domestic discipline spanking movies around!

It all happened by accident. I was in Chicago for an adult expo roughly two weeks before the summer Crimson Moon spanking party. While at Exxxotica I ran into two amazing women. One of these women is Angie, the creator of one of the best porn for women sites I have seen. The second was Bethany of Blushing Books. After some talking, we ended up having an amazing dinner with two of my co-workers and Angie’s husband Colin, the creator of Wasteland.com, a very yummy BDSM website. I found out that the three of them were the driving force behind Spanking Epics. This blew my mind, one of my favorite and first spanking movies came from that site.

After much talking and a couple glasses of wine we decided to work together on re-launching the site. So now Epics is live and starting to sell direct download content. We will produce new movies in the very near future!

Of course the most exciting part of this news is that there will be new movies from Spanking Epics. Given the passage of years and what look like at least some changes on the creative team, we’ll have to wait and see if the new movies are as good as the old ones. Keep your fingers crossed, people!

Bethie and I finally found time to watch our review copy of Lucinda’s Confessions, the latest spanking movie from Spanking Epics. We found it to be a solid and enjoyable production.

Like the first two movies from Spanking Epics, Lucinda’s Confessions delivers believable spankings set in a much stronger story framework than is standard for the genre. Although the acting (especially the voicework) still has room to improve before you’ll be able to forget that the lines are being delivered from a script, the characters, costumes, humor, and story are all miles above anything else I’ve seen lately. Better yet, the spankings are strong and (mostly) believable without ever becoming brutal (this movie will not satisfy those looking for strong welts or severe marking).

Lucinda’s Confessions is “framed” within a modern office setting, and consists of the imaginings of a magazine writer who works on an erotic story after hours. The story itself involves a Victorian-ish setting featuring stock characters: the orphaned nearly-adult protagonist, her distantly-related wealthy male guardian, her severe governess, and her tutor. Upon joining this household, Lucinda quickly finds that her behavior is not up to expected standards, and in consequence she perforce must endure a wide variety of spankings and canings.

The spanking in this movie is better done than in earlier efforts by Spanking Epics, in the sense that there is a better match between the severity of the spankings and the reactions of the spankees. (You knew the governess would not escape unspanked!) There is less of the “Tappity-tap pat pat YEOUCH!” over-acting that’s too common in spanking movies, and the bottoms on display redden so quickly and so well there can be little doubt that the spankings are felt.

Lucinda’s Confession alsos delivers a small frisson of delight for those who enjoy ageplay, in that Lucinda, though an adult young woman, is at one point forced to wear the clothes of a much younger girl and is treated as a child to emphasize how unacceptable the household finds her childish behavior. As part of this treatment, the governess shaves off Lucinda’s pubic hair with a straight razor, which is (to put it mildly) quite visually arresting:

Pussy shaving fans will greatly enjoy this scene, even if (as seems likely) there’s nothing actually being shaved by that dramatic blade except a generous quantity of shaving foam.

If you’re used to spanking movies that pretend sex does not exist, you may be suprised by scenes like the shaving scene mentioned above, a fairly explicit female masturbation scene, or a scene in which Lucinda discovers that she can orgasm while being spanked. I found these scenes to be a refreshing departure from the almost prudish attitude that’s common in spanking porn.

I won’t spoil your enjoyment of the movie with a scene-by-scene plot analysis, but I can safely say there’s a happy ending. And of course, I’m looking forward to the next effort from Spanking Epics.

I’ve been sorely remiss in my reviewing duties of late. Back around Valentine’s Day, Bethie and I watched The Vacation from Spanking Epics. We enjoyed it so much, we watched it a second time! It’s very entertaining with some hot spanking, too.

Since the plot is well-summarized at the links above, I shan’t waste your time repeating what happens in the movie. Instead, I’ll tell you this is a spanking movie that actually has a plot, and spends a fair amount of time developing it before diving into the spankings. The acting is better than normal for porn movies, but still a little bit amateur in the sense that some of the lines sound recited, rather than natural. It’s not a problem, trust me. Both of the female leads are both pretty and cute, and they brat their way into a number of well-deserved spankings.

This movie is emphatically not for fans of extremely harsh spankings, however. There are several OTK scenes that didn’t work for me, because the ladies went from snotty to pleading after just a very few light, measured hand swats (or, in one case, hairbrush swats) that couldn’t possibly have caused that much attitude adjustment. However, some of the other scenes are very plausible indeed, and plenty hot.

There’s an extended flashback scene in which one of our heroines is extensively spanked by hand, with a yardstick, and with a cane by a dirty-old-man professor; if you like such scenarios, you’ll really like this one. The professor is impressively sleazy and very stern. The spanking progresses from mild to (by the time the cane comes out) plenty hard enough to make you believe his victim is feeling properly chastised. She winds up with a pink bottom and some visible marks, but nowhere in the movie will you see vivid or puffy welts in the style of those Eastern European offerings I’ve reviewed from time to time.

By far the hottest scenes in the movie come near the end, when both female leads receive a joint, richly-deserved outdoor switching. Although the switches are not administered very hard, they nonetheless raise a respectable pattern of red marks on deserving female bottoms. At one point one woman is being held by one hand as she tries to run, resulting in a noisy and hilarious orbit around the man with the switch as he calmly keeps switching away.

The entire movie is done with a tongue-in-cheek humor that makes it fun to watch even when no spanking is happening. All the main characters are sympathetic and likeable, even when in full brat mode. You’ll laugh, you’ll snicker, you’ll want to go out into the woods and cut a switch. Recommended!

A while back I linked to the trailer for Schoolmaster’s Revenge, the new spanking video from Spanking Epics. After I hinted (none too subtly) for a review copy, Bethany kindly sent one along.

And am I glad she did! My lady and I watched Schoolmaster’s Revenge on Saturday night and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Without giving away too much of the plot (Yes! It actually has a plot!), I can say that the story follows fairly naturally from the title. In this historical piece, two adult young ladies get caught cheating on the final exam for their schoolteacher’s certificates. They are of course offered the classic choice between ignominious expulsion and taking their licks. What choice do they have? They get spanked with hand and paddle, then sent home for more of the same with razor strop and wooden spoon. One young lady has a mother who takes offense. Mom stomps off to confront the schoolmaster, with whom she has a history. You know where this is going.

OK, time for some few words on spanking quality, acting, actresses, and the like. The two young ladies are sweet, often demure, and very lovely, and they wear (when not bare-bottomed) some lovely period dresses and costumes. Their acting skills are spotty; lines can be a bit rough and they overreact at first with fake tears and pleading when they’ve barely been spanked yet. But they are so cute, you really won’t mind. Later, as their spankings take one some real heat, their reactions are more natural and convincing.

The mother, also very attractive, is a far better actress, bringing real passion to her role along with an amusing brattiness that keeps getting her in deeper trouble. I would be astounded if this lady isn’t a spanko and accomplished brat “in real life” — she brats with far too much naturalness and humor to be working from somebody else’s script.

As for severity, the spankings themselves are refreshingly good. Both young ladies get bright red bottoms from their initial hand spankings, and then pick up additional visible marks as they are later paddled and strapped. Nothing horrid or too severe, but also none of this “caress her bottom while she yells” stuff that used to pass for spanking videos back in the bad old days. Except right at first, these girls are feeling every whack and you can tell by their reactions and by their swiftly reddening bottoms. The same goes for the spankings Mom gets, except that she also gets a light caning (six strokes, only one or two hard enough to mark) to which she reacts as if she were being slain with a red-hot poker. The caning was a bit disappointing, as it followed a more-serious paddling and was treated in the script as a much more dire punishment, even though it clearly wasn’t. Such a mean old schoolmaster shouldn’t be such a wimp with the cane.

Production quality of the DVD was quite good, but not perfect. Lighting was sometimes spotty (a few of the early scenes had an unusual orange tinge from one camera angle) and audio, as is common in erotic productions, suffered from unequal levels throughout the movie. Some dialogue was very hard to hear, but when I turned up the volume, the next scene would featur shrieking that rattled my windows and (doubtless) shocked my neighbors. There were also a few minutes where the spanking blows on the screen were minutely out-of-synch with the audio track, but this is truly a tiny nit to pick.

Remarkably for spanking porn, the DVD version has real DVD features, including an alternate ending, an unrelated ultrashort film featuring two of the same players, and a short bloopers track. The alternate ending and the ultrashort were real value-added, giving Mom several more chances to brat humorously and letting the evil schoolmaster show a lighter and more amusing side of his character.

To sum up: Schoolmaster’s Revenge is a worthy and entertaining production, featuring cute girls, nice brisk bottom-reddening spankings, and enough plot and humor to set it miles above the general run of spanking movies. SpankBoss gives it two paddles up!
