Administrivia: Bumpy Road Ahead

Hey everyone, Spanking Blog is long overdue for a spring cleaning. The templates are old and musty, some of the links are stale, and there’s a lot of little things need cleaning up. Please bear with me over the next few days.

The biggest immediate change you may notice will be in my link structure — when I started this blog a very long time ago, I thought it was nifty to use a “target equals blank” attribute in my hrefs so that links people click on would open in new windows. That’s wrong, it annoys people, it breaks the web standard, and I hereby repent. Actually, I repented awhile ago, I’ve just been too lazy to clean up after myself. Consistent use of a bad link structure is bad enough, but inconsistent behavior when people click my links has been the de facto standard, and now I’m trying to fix it.

I’m also aware that I’ve fallen behind on finding the newer well-established spanking blogs and kinky sex blogs. If you know of a blog out there that’s been publishing frequently for at least six months that you think should be linked from Spanking Blog, please feel free to suggest it to me in the comments on this thread. My one request is that if you take the time to suggest a blog, you also take the time to write a couple of descriptive sentences explaining what you find good about it. That way I’ll be able to to tell your suggestions apart from random spam, which usually consist of links but no descriptive text. Feel free to suggest your own blog (if you’ve been active long enough) but I still want to see a few words about what makes you think it will be of interest to Spanking Blog readers.

I’d like to suggest my blog, which talks about my experiences with my Dom (including lots of spanking, in front of an audience and in private). http://www.kinkylibrarian.net I’ve been writing it for about a year and a half and it’s been about my Dom and I for the past year.

Just think of it as a darned good, long-overdue enema.

Ew, must I? Not to denigrate the fetish value for folks who are into it, but not my thing.

Eeek, a spring cleaning… You’re making me feel lazy now.

May I give a plug to “Lowewood Academy” (www.lowewood-academy.co.uk/wordpress), which is a spanking soap-opera in blog format set in a British boarding school. (Full disclosure: I’m one of the authors.) We’ve been posting every day since November 2006, and are about to start the new school year.

  5. SpankBoss commented on August 4th, 2008:

Haron, you will note after a glance out the window that it is not now, nor has it been for some time, actually spring. ;-) So my dubious energetics need not make you feel lazy.

Thanks for the blogroll suggestions and keep ’em coming, I’ll be checking them in a bunch when I get to the blogroll portion of my reorganization program.

TOTB is by far the finest store of published spanking fiction in the blogosphere and is well worthy of a link ..and spankmaster I dont know why you removed the link in the first place. I was most hurt!!

  7. SpankBoss commented on August 4th, 2008:

Dude, you should never be “hurt” by other people’s link decisions on the internet. People link, or not, for dozens of different reasons; most of them are not the sort that should be sufficient to support pain or offense.

I’m a fan of your blog, but I am very strongly opposed to links that don’t go where they are supposed to. With the blogger crackdown on adult content, a ton of my old links to blogspot blogs have been broken — the links no longer go to their link target destination, but rather to Blogspot’s rude and ugly “Content Warning” page. I try to give people time to migrate to their own domain and hosting, but eventually, those broken links have got to come down. Do please let me know if you ever migrate to a linkable place!

I also wondered why Taste of the Birch went away. It was gone months and months ago, long before the Big Bad Google put up the Content Warning sign. Frankly, I just hate having to type in the entire web address every time I visit, since I don’t bookmark and I don’t store history, out of reverence for my teenaged son. But to each his own and I hope it comes back soon. I like one stop shopping.

Just a reminder to folks that I’m looking for suggestions for blogs that you think I may have overlooked.

Honestly, I like the Target=blank formatting. Having a new window open is much better than going to one with the back button disabled.

eeeee pictures in RSS feed plz! Maybe even whole posts? That’d be awesome.

Anyhoo if you’re looking for design tips I stumbled upon this: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/07/24/a-small-study-of-big-blogs/

    Enjoy!

  12. SpankBoss commented on August 5th, 2008:

Darth, I liked it too, that’s why I used it for so many years. But compliance with web standards is important, because it lets us be device-independent; with so many people going to mobile browsers and such, using XHTML that verifies is the only decent thing to do.

For what it’s worth, I try VERY hard not to link to any place that does hostile crap like disabling your back button.

Blackwing, I’d dearly love to be able to put my whole output into a clean RSS feed, but every time I’ve tried it, I’ve seen my site copied wholesale onto hundreds of those scraper-splogs. I’m afraid that’s one of the reasons Spanking Blog no longer shows up well in the search results for important keywords like “spanking”, because of all the duplicate content that resulted from my experiments with a full and open feed.

Blogs that I’m really into these days:

Radha Sutra – she is insatiable and i really adore the blend of spirituality and submission.

Persephone’s Obedience – i love how twisted the whole business is, and the glimpsy pictures of Meg I find very hot. I like the way she describes her spankings and how dominant Andrew becomes.
