Twenty Naked Public Spankings

You know I couldn’t endorse this manner of labor activism, but I think I may be forgiven for wishing that the entrancing spectacle had been recorded by means of photography or one of the other visual arts:

It’s from Chross and the text (from the Dallas Evening Post, August 8 1935) reads:

PUBLICLY SPANKED
WOMEN STRIKE-BREAKERS
A WAY THEY HAVE IN TEXAS

New technique for combating strike breaking was demonstrated today when a hundred striking union women, garment workers, seized a score of non-union women, forcibly disrobed them and spanked them publicly. The spectacle attracted a thousand nearby office workers, who prevented police interference.
