I used to be an ice skater, so I know all about spanking myself by accident!

Also, all ice skaters are maschists. They have to be. Our coaches would have us try stuff over and over again that we knew would make us fall onto the painfully hard (and cold!) surface until we learned how NOT to fall! My coach always told me to “Just try it one more time,” and for some reason, I always believed it would just be one more time — and it never was! :)

Heh, in my experience a lot of doms have a more relaxed relationship with pain than your average Joe. Even the ones who never switch (and never have, and never will) have an experiential basis for understanding that pain is not absolute and need not inevitably be accompanied by fear or stress. I suspect that may make them (huge sweeping generalization here, I don’t need to hear from 27 subbie girls saying “my master is a terrible weenie about the teensiest things, it takes me three days to talk him out of bed when he stubs his wittle toe” even if it’s true) a bit more relaxed when pain happens.
I suspect ice skaters, masochist or not, need to develop that relaxed attitude about pain. Hard to see how you’d ever launch a jump if you were cringing the way sensible people would.
