   The books like that I’ve seen, the cover was always the best part. The books tended to be cheap, badly printed, full of printers’ errors (missing or repeated chapters), and (sadly) often dull.

   Of course, these are gross generalizations about a genre that doubtless has its gems.

   You’ve gotta look at the entire picture. In the background is a ramp for loading and unloading the car as well as the another boxcar sitting on tracks. The buildings also have a barracks look to them. Had the individual administering the punishment been wearing a cowboy get up I think it would change the entire flavor of the pic.
